A native of Houston Texas, Matt Hoffpauir was born into a musical family that introduced him the guitar at an early age. At the age of 11 his curiosity could no longer be contained so he picked up his fathers’ Ibanez acoustic guitar to explore the world of music his family so enjoyed and has never looked back. By the age of 13, Uncle Ed (really!) had exposed him to the magic of the electric guitar and Matt began his study in earnest with some of the best rock, blues, and jazz guitar teachers around Houston. That vast range of musical influence gave Matt a unique perspective that soon molded his natural talent into a style all his own. Matt’s first encounter with music greats like Eric Johnson, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix, fueled his desire and determination to master the instrument that he loved. Modern rock groups such as Tool, Kings X, The Smashing Pumpkins, and acoustic artists such as Ani Difranco and Adrian Legg have also left an impression on Matt’s creativity you can hear and feel whenever his fingers caress the strings. For a time, Matt was guitarist for an alternative rock group called The SubTerraneans and later moved on to form a powerful rock group with CJ Philpot known as MTRC. Always striving for the right chemistry and phenomenal sound, Matt and CJ knew they clicked together. They decided to join with the group known as the StoneKings, which by the way, includes the man who fueled Matt’s early musical desire and creativity. Yes, you guessed it, that man is Uncle Ed Hoffpauir, bassist for the StoneKings. Matt can be contacted via email at MHoffp57@aol.com |
