| APRIL 19, 2005 - I see that many of you still take time out of your busy day to read StoneKingsBand.com. We certainly appreciete everyones support. Today I worked on cleaning the site up a bit and making it a little easier to navigate. I'm going to get rid of all the junk and keep updating the more informative pages on a regular basis so you'll know what the guys are doing.
CJ has been working hard as the drummer of Short Notice and has played many shows since the Stone Kings broke up.
I've been wandering around Austin and San Antonio checking out all the hottest bands, and when I'm at home I keep playing my acoustic guitar and work on new material for whatever musical adventure comes my way.
Ed has changed his name to Edsel Rose and has taken his one man band on the road opening for several great artists such as Ashlee Simpson and Kenny G .
Randy...well, we really just don't know where he is. No one has heard from him in weeks. If you're reading this Randy, please give us a call and keep in touch.
- Matt
MARCH 15, 2005- As many of you already know the Stone Kings have parted ways to pursue different musical opportunities. It was time to make some changes and the band members realized that we each had different goals and ambitions today than when they first formed the group over three years ago. Everyone left of great terms and are looking forward to doing even greater things in the future. CJ "Thunder Sticks" Philpot can already be seen all over town playing in the power trio "Short Notice". The boys are available for "jams" if any musicians are interested. We can be contacted through the "booking" page of this web site. This web site will continue to be hosted to let everyone know what the guys are up to.
Thank you for all the support over the years!!
NOVEMBER 5, 2004 - We are very sorry to say that OZ BAR neglected to notify us of tonights show cancellation. We are a professional band and do not like to inform our fans of cancellations at the very last minute, but we were given no choice. Apparently a few senior citizen patrons of the OZ BAR were offended by our loud rock music, long hair, and the scantily clad dancers that graced the dance floor during our last performance. OZ BAR has decided to go for a more "adult contemporary / easy listening" genre of music and so the STONE KINGS are not performing at this venue for the time being.
Although OZ BAR doesn't like rock and roll, we know that we have many fans that DO like rock and roll....and for these great people we will be playing tomorrow night at FORGETTABOUTIT (Jones @ Grant) from 10:00pm-11:30pm Saturday the 6th. FORGETTABOUTIT isn't afraid of real rock and roll, so come on out and enjoy the show.......if ya' aint scared!
NOVEMBER 1, 2004 - The Stone Kings first ever CD release party was a smashing success. Al's Sports Bar was standing room only for most of the evening. 150+ people packed into Al's early to partake of the BBQ buffet and draft beer, and to mingle with their fellow Stone Kings supporters. The night started off with a brilliant acoustic set by Houston's own Carolyn Wallace. She performed several new tunes as well as many songs from her album "More Than Friends" which has already gained critical acclaim. The Stone Kings took the stage soon after and passionately tore through their original songs one after another while throwing in a few of their favorite cover songs for flavor. Stone Kings were later joined on stage by Dallas guitarist and songwriter Mike Tullos, and Houston guitarist Kenny the Shredder for an all star jam that the band will not soon forget.
Stone Kings wish to thank every that was in attendance that night. You guys are the reason we make music.
OCTOBER 23, 2004 - Well the CD release party is finally upon us. Tonight at Al's Sports Bar #2 on Westheimer we're going to rock out on all of our original music and party with our good friends in celebration of the hard work and effort that everyone has put into the making of the new CD. We are all very pleased with the final product and it's been getting great response from the public.
Our great friend Carolyn Wallace will be on hand tonight to open the show with her original acoustic set. Come early because you certainly don't want to miss this. The Stone Kings will take the stage shortly afterward and rock the house, and finally we'll open the stage up for a jam session with all of our musician friends to wrap up the show. There will be FREE draft beer, FREE BBQ, and FREE give aways for all of our guests. Check the schedule page for more info.
OCTOBER 14, 2004 - Stone Kings drummer CJ Philpot has been hard at work in the studio working on his solo project, "The Overlords". A brand new track has just come available this week so that everyone can get a sneak peek of what he's up to. The new MP3 titled My Perfect Dream was written by Mike Tullos. This great Americana song features CJ Philpot on lead vocals, drums, and guitars. Stone Kings Producer Steve Owens performed the bass guitar, 6 string guitar, and production duties. Lead guitar was played by the very talented Glenn Kozielec. Rumor has it that the guys are busy in the studio recording the next song right now! Stay tuned for all the details.
OCTOBER 7, 2004 - The first official CD Release Party is now scheduled for October 23rd at AL's SPORTS BAR on Westheimer. Visit our schedule page for all the details. There will be food, drinks, gifts, and a complete live performance of the recently released CD "Tomorrow Is Now". Although this even is open to the public, we are still sending out invitations in the mail. To receive your invitation please email your address to MHoffp57@aol.com.
AUGUST 31, 2004 - The Stone Kings will be opening up GREAT WHITE on the "Landry's Stage" this year at the Lone Star Bike Rally in Galveston Texas Friday September 24th. This is the largest bike rally in Texas and it's going to be an awesome show! Stone Kings are scheduled to hit the stage at 6:30pm. GREAT WHITE will come on stage around 10:00pm. Come early to hear all the bands that day. There will be a lot of great entertainment.
AUGUST 18, 2004 - The Stone Kings are now working their way onto the TEXAS TOP 40 Charts! The Stone Kings song Bittersweet (written by Carolyn Wallace) has been downloaded over 1000 times giving it a ranking of 78. That's a long way from the top 40, so we need everyone to visit TEXAS TOP 40 and download this song so we can climb that chart!
The CD is now available at CDBaby.com! This web site is extremely easy to use and you can buy our new album using any major credit card, check, or even PAYPAL.
AUGUST 17, 2004 - The Stone Kings are now officially distributed by OutboundMusic.com. Visit their web site today to buy our CD online! We also have CD's in stock at Cactus Music located at 2930 S. Shepherd, Houston Texas 77098. Stop in and pick up a copy!

AUGUST 10, 2004- We recieved a call from Zakk United of 94.5 THE BUZZ telling us that he has selected the title track off of our new CD "Tomorrow Is Now" to play this Sunday night on his "Texas Buzz" radio show! He only has time to play 5 or 6 songs from local Texas artists, and we are honored to be selected. The radio show will be played this Sunday night (August 15th) between 11pm and midnight. This is an excellent opportunity for us to expose our music to several thousand new Texas music fans!
Once they have played "Tomorrow Is Now", you can send your feedback to 94.5 The Buzz and Zakk United, to request that they keep playing the STONE KINGS! The more positive feedback they get, the greater our chance of getting more airplay.
All contact info can be found at www.thebuzz.com

JULY 1, 2004- The Houston Press Music Awards ballot is out this week. Although the Stone Kings aren't listed in any of the categories this year, we want to thank all of our friends and supporters that nominated us. Please feel free to write us in on any of the catagories that you see fit (hint hint). It looks like it will be a close competition as many great bands such as Paris Green, Pilot Radio, Silver Leaf, and Mighty Orq recieve votes in each of their categories. The music showcase is set for July 25th, and a $7 wristband gets you in to see up to 65 bands. We'll be out there showing support for all the local bands that night, and hopefully next year we'll be performing at the showcase ourselves.
Ty Tabor has completed mastering the Stone Kings CD Titled "Tomorrow Is Now". The word from Stone Kings headquarters is that it's SMOKING HOT.
JUNE 22, 2004- There has been another last minute addition to this weeks tour schedule. We've been booked at Pelican Junction in Baytown for Sunday June 27th. More info will be posted on the Schedule page as it comes available.
MAY 26th 2004- There been a last minute change to the schedule for Memorial day weekend! Not only are we playing at Froggie's Saloon on Friday, Al's Sports Bar on Saturday, but we've just added an early evening show on Sunday at BRODIES BEACH HUT on galveston Island (4pm-8pm MAY 30th). Great food, great music, and always a great view. We'll see ya'll on the beach!
MAY 18th 2004- The Stone Kings will not be doing any live performances this weekend so we can spend our time finalizing the CD mixing. Vocalist Randy Von Folk still has to listen to and approve all of his vocal work on the CD, then it is being shipped to Ty Tabor (guitarist of KINGS X and owner of ALIEN BEANS STUDIO) to be mastered in his state of the art facility.
While the CD is being mastered the Stone Kings will be doing photo shoots and graphic design work for the album cover. In a matter of just weeks the new Stone Kings album, titled "Tomorrow is Now", will hit the music store shelves. Distribution of the album is already being arranged through OutboundMusic.com, CDBaby.com, Tower Records, Cactus Music, and many other reputable music dealers. Stone Kings music will be available in the traditional CD format, or each song can be purchased individually in the form of an MP3 download.
We're currently planning the CD release party, so stay tuned for more details on that.
MAY 11th 2004- Last weekend we rolled over to Baycliff and played a great venue right on the edge of Texas called NOAHS ARK. If you drank a few too many and walked in the wrong direction, you just might fall into the Gulf of Mexico. Great food, great drinks, and a lively crowd made it a very enjoyable show. We made some new friends and saw a lot of familiar faces. There seem to be a lot of music lovers on that side of town and we've already scheduled more shows there soon. We'll not only be back to rock NOAHS ARK again, but we'll also be doing two nights in a row at CHANTILLY ROOM in Laporte Texas on June 18th and 19th. Several people asked if they could buy the CD yet, and hopefully we'll have it finished and ready for sale by the time we come back! It looks like we're only a couple weeks away from completion now! Stay tuned for details.
MAY 4th 2004- Saturday night's show at Sidecar Pub was fantastic. The evening started off with an acoustic set from Matt Powell, the Stone Kings then performed an hour long original set, and to top everything off the amazing Van Wilks played two smoking sets that left everyone in awe. Josh at the Sidecar Pub did an excellent job working sound and lights and everyone had an excellent time. Local photographer Krysta Raghoonanansingh of LEVEL NINE PHOTOGRAPHY came out to take a few live shot of the band, and they will be seen very soon right here on our web site and on the new CD insert that is in the works. The entire band would like thank her for the work she put in that night. Shane Cagle and Mike Lee of the hot Houston band Drowning in February were also in attendance that night. Its great to see other local artists out supporting the music scene.
On a more serious note, Stone Kings bassist Ed Hoffpauir had his Hartke 5000 bass amplifier stolen from his home before the show. We hope this low life bastard turns himself into the proper authorities and returns the amp to its rightful owner, but chances are that its already been traded for a crack rock. We feel that the best way to track this criminal down is on the television show "America's Most Wanted", but after leaving countless phone messages John Walsh hasn't called us back.
Next weekend the Stone King's bus is loading up and heading to Baycliff. See ya'll at the show!
APRIL 27 2004- Its good to be KING! The Stone Kings "Give the People What They Want TOUR" has taken us on a wild ride over the last 7 days. We survived pollution, white supremacist groups, bad weather, a room full of breast implants, and enough tequila to kill a horse! It's not just a job....it's an adventure! As soon as we recover, we've got to gear up for the most exciting Stone Kings show to date...This Saturday night the Stone Kings will be sharing the stage with the legendary Austin guitarist Van Wilks. We'll be playing an extra long set that night so come early and grab a seat close to the action.
The Houston Press Music Award nominations are coming up in just a few months! One of our goals this year is to be recognized by the Houston Press and to gain a nomination. We've proven to be one of the hardest working bands in Houston (just look at our schedule for evidence), and we've developed our own unique style of "Texas rock music" that the public has been very receptive to. Please help us to get nominated for a Houston Press Music Award by emailing music@houstonpress.com , and let them know that you want to see STONE KINGS on the voting poll.
APRIL 16th 2004- The internet is a wonderful thing for independant bands! We're getting played on several streaming online radio shows. Click over to http://www.unsigned-online.com/ and request the STONE KINGS! It will help us climb up their charts and get more exposure.
We've added more photos to the "Images" pages, and we're also introducing a STREET TEAM page on the web site. We've achieved a lot over the past couple years, but we couldn't do any of it without the STONE KINGS fans and supporters out there. We're gearing up to promote our new CD that will be coming out very shortly, and we can use all the help we can get. Check out the new STREET TEAM page and send us an email if you can help.
ROCK ON! --- Matt
APRIL 13th 2004- NEWS, NEWS, NEWS!! Where do I start? This web site hasn't been updated in weeks due to technical problems back at STONE KINGS HEADQUARTERS....but thanks to a VERY generous computer donation made by Virginia and Randy Mott we are back online bringing the STONE KINGS information to our fans and friends.
New photos have been added today! Check out page 2 of "Images".
We just came off of a short Texas tour that started in Houston and ended in Austin at Sam's Boat. What a great trip! We caught up with our family and friends on the way, and we hope to get back up there agan soon.
MANY NEW SHOWS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE SCHEDULE!! Thanks to our wonderful manager over at K's White Horse productions. She's keeping the Stone Kings circus traveling from town to town.
We're back in the studio soon to finish up the CD. I know everyone has been waiting patiently for this debut release, and I want to assure you that the wait will be worth it. This CD is going to surprise a lot of people...heck, it's even surprising us! When you're in the studio and the creative juices are flowing, every now and then a magical moment takes place and you capture it on tape. We've got some REAL rock and roll taking place over there at Two Stooges Studios and we can't wait to show it to the world. If you're not already on our mailing list and you'd like to be notified when the CD is released, please email me and I'll add you to the list- MHoffp57@aol.com
